Letter from the Principal

Dear Paul Ecke Central Families,
Welcome to the 2015-16 school year. I want to thank all of you for making our first week of school a great success! Here are some updates on our construction, playground and traffic.

After eight intense weeks of construction, our school now has solar panels, solar tubes, air conditioning in all buildings, new flooring, fire access road, and classroom furniture. There are still some minor details that need attending to, but all of these will be completed over the next couple of weeks.

With the construction of our new fire access road, code restrictions called for the removal of one of our basketball hoops. EUSD is in the process of ordering a replacement basketball hoop that can be removed in the event that a fire truck needs to enter our campus. The district will also be re-doing our blacktop asphalt and re-striping our playground during the fall break in October.

On the first day of school we were very saddened to discover that one of our play structures had been badly vandalized and damaged. We have been collaborating with the Encinitas Sheriff’s department and EUSD to report the damages and work on a plan to fix our play structure. Playground representatives have been out to PEC and our school district has placed an order for the playground replacement parts. The playground company has promised to rush our order since they know our students are anxious to play. Due to the extent of the damage, it is estimated that it will take 2-3 weeks to make our play structure safe and operational once again.

Traffic Safety Plan
The roll out of our traffic safety plan has been very successful in diminishing our dismissal waiting time by 50% and our students’ tardies have diminished by approximately 75%. We realize that there are still some kinks to work out on our traffic safety plan, with the biggest one being the standing traffic along Vulcan Avenue (Orange Line) at dismissal time. The Sheriff has informed us that they will begin ticketing cars that are standing and blocking Vulcan Avenue in the afternoon. As such, we are advising that if you are using the Orange Line (Vulcan) to pick up your children, that you do not arrive and cue up earlier than 2:20 PM. We also advise you to use the blue line (Union) as an alternative pick up route. As always, we invite your comments regarding our new Traffic Safety Plan by emailing them to pec.tsc@gmail.com.

School Site Council Elections
Nominations for our School Site Council are now open! If you are interested in being part of a team of staff and parents that advises the principal on how to utilize state and federal monies provided to the school, please consider joining the SSC. Nomination forms will be sent home on Monday and will be accepted through Wednesday, August 26. Elections will occur on Thursday, August 27 during the Back to School Night event.

Thank you for all of your support and I look forward to seeing all of you at Back to School Night on Thursday, August 27 from 5-7 PM.
