Your willingness to help as a volunteer makes Paul Ecke Central an awesome school! The PTA sponsors programs throughout the school year that depend on volunteers. Some provide weekly enrichment while others help raise much needed funds for programs…and some are just plain fun!

Fundraising Events

Jog-A-Thon  (Nov 2011) – Volunteers can help by helping to plan, set up and work the event as well as post-event prize distribution.

Night-time Fundraiser  (Feb/March 2012) – This is an exciting event for adults only: a concert and dinner with both live and silent auctions. Volunteers are needed to help in planning the event, contacting area businesses and individuals for auction donations, and processing the receipt of donations. Volunteers can also help the night of the event with set up/clean up, distributing bid sheets, and assisting with the auction.

Original Works (March 2012) – This program allows families to preserve their children’s artwork as ceramics, stationary, and other cool items. Volunteers are needed to distribute information as well as collect and organize the orders.

Pancake Breakfast and Carnival (May 2012) – This event is a fun family day! Volunteers serve pancakes and there are loads of carnival rides, demonstrations and games. There is also an amazing silent auction. Volunteers are needed to: distribute and account for tickets, purchase food and other supplies, contact area businesses and individuals for auction donations, and process the receipt of donations. The event day volunteers are needed to help with set up, run a variety of fun games and booths and clean up.

Ongoing Programs

Website Management - Manage PEC PTA website.  About one hour a week of daily updating on WordPress. The site can just be updated — doesn’t need to change, but ok if new person desires updating the layout or updating to a new system.  

Newsletters (Monthly & Weekly eBlasts) - Publish weekly eblasts and monthly newsletter from information emailed to you from various event/program leads, PTA calendar and web site.  Once a week send out email blasts. Once a month create newsletter: send to translation, print hard copies for non electronic recipients at Anderson’s Printers, turn in printing receipts to Treasurer with “newsletter” notation.   When finished, work with office for distribution to PEC population.  Student Direct (one time of year) - Work with VP Communications to get electronically submitted student information in September.  Data enter manually submitted student information.  Create Directory using template.  Share with school office for approval and to determine # of copies.  Send directory to printer.  Submit printer receipt to Treasurer.  When finished, work with office for distribution to PEC population.

Music Performance & Programs (twice a year) - Create Winter Music Program in December and Grandparents Day Program in February with music teacher and print.  Submit receipt forms to Treasurer if using outside printing resource.  Arrange for distribution of programs at performance if needed.

Room Parent – Liaison between teacher and parents. Assist teacher with celebrations, activities, field trips, etc. Also acts as the liaison between the PTA and the classroom by forwarding information regarding PEC to our families.

Weekly Volunteer in Classroom –Volunteer weekly in the classroom to assist your teacher with the Language Arts or Math curriculum.

Rolling Readers – Read with children on a weekly basis to help boost their reading skills.

Art Literacy – Teach art in your child’s classroom once a week—no experience is necessary. Volunteers will be provided hands-on training once a month, as well as all lessons and supplies. Come learn about famous artists and techniques such as painting, sculpture, mosaic, and many others.

Playground Partners – Volunteers are needed to supervise organized sports and games during the lunch hour. Training and equipment is provided. Come out once a week to play with the students at lunch. This is a great volunteer opportunity for our PEC dads!

Yearbook – Help produce our awesome annual Yearbook. Volunteers are needed to take classroom and event pictures throughout the year and work on book production in the spring.

Community Service – Join the team to brainstorm, set up, and help promote community service activities to our students and families.

Grant Writing – PEC depends on grants for funding of many projects. You can assist in getting these grants by lending your writing expertise.

Library Helper – Volunteer once a week or once a month to help the librarian.

Math 24 Club – Parents help groups of kids play Math 24 to sharpen their math skills and have fun. We prepare for a EUSD Math 24 tournament in May.

Running Club – Volunteer once a week to run with the running club and help organize and encourage these amazing students.

PEConnect Help welcome new families to our great school.  This is your opportunity to connect with a new family, make them feel comfortable and answer any PEC questions they may have.

Newsletter and E-blasts– PEC Central is published once a month.  E-blasts are sent out every Thursday.  Volunteers can work from home by helping with content creation and editing. No experience necessary.

Science Lab – One of the students’ favorite subjects is Science. Volunteer weekly or monthly to assist in the Science Lab and help grow their minds.

Technology – Help us by working with SSC, principal and district to determine and implement PEC’s technological future.

Family Nights – We’ve planned several family nights for the year, including Family Movie Night, Reading Night, and Science Night. Help is needed organizing and setting up these fun family evenings.

Hospitality – Committee members needed to coordinate refreshments for events throughout the year; PTA General Meetings (3 evenings), Grandparents Day, Kindergarten Tea and Teacher Appreciation Lunch.

Fun and Educational Events

Fall Social  (Sept 2011) – This back to school picnic on the grass features a live band and is just for fun. Help is needed for set up, clean up, and selling food.

Red Ribbon Week  (Oct 2011) – This program offers activities to educate our students about the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse. Help is needed for organizing activities and decorating the school the weekend before.

Ability Awareness (Nov 2011) – Volunteer during Ability Awareness week to help our students understand what a disabled person experiences.

Book Fair (Dec 2011) – Profits go to expanding/improving classroom libraries.  This is a week-long event every student anticipates! The multi-purpose room is transformed into a bookstore for the students. Volunteers are needed to help organize and plan this event, as well as sell books and goodies during the week.

Reading Challenge (Jan–Feb 2012) – This is an 8-week reading event to encourage a love of reading in the students. Volunteers are needed to tally minutes, read in your student’s classroom, and distribute prizes.

Grandparents Day (Feb 2012) – This is a fun day to honor and welcome our grandparents on campus. Volunteers are needed for planning, set up, and clean up.

Variety Show (March 2012) – Volunteers are needed for this amazing night of entertainment. Committee Members will help with the planning and organization of the event. Other volunteer opportunities include event day set up, clean up, and directing students.

Book Swap (May 2012) – Save all of those books you no longer read and exchange them for gently used ones you always wanted. Volunteers are needed to help collect and categorize the books.

Staff Luncheon (May 2012) – Show our wonderful staff how much we appreciate them. Volunteer to help with the staff appreciation lunch organization, set up, refreshments, or clean up.

Sock Hop (June 2012) – This is a fun, 50s theme event for the whole family that includes dancing, food, and prizes. Volunteers are needed to help organize the event, set up, and clean up.

SixthGrade Promotion (June 2012) – Fifth grade families are needed to volunteer for this event. Help is needed in organizing as well as on the day of the event.
