Welcome back to the PEC 2011-12 school year.  This school year, PEC is building upon last year’s successful Specials programs which delivered enrichment programs (Music, Theatre, Yoga and Art) to students.  The 2011-12 Specials Rotations are an enhancement of our existing enrichment learning program at PEC.  Each week students will participate in a number of different learning programs which complement our core academic cirriculum.  This year’s programs include: Music, Theatre, Chess, Garden, Library, Brain Power, PE and Yoga.

These programs are run by trained specialists and supported by parent volunteers, giving classroom teachers much needed collaboration and planning time. This additional time for the teachers is part of an ongoing process enabling teachers to continually update lessons to include 21st century skills and create a more personalized learning environment for their students through collaboration. View the Specials Rotations document for details about the timings of the program for both the students and the teachers.  This document is still in draft and subject to change until 12th Sept.

The 2011-2012 Specials Rotation program will start the week of the 12th September.

Notes about the Specials Rotations PDF:
Page 1 – Specials Rotations: Students - A breakdown of the STUDENT’s rotation day by grade level showing; seminars, rotations, recess, lunch, art and the time with the classroom teacher – highlighted in green.
Page 2 – Specials Rotations: Year View - A year view breakdown of the weeks of rotations, to highlight holidays, on the far right is “week 1″ etc denoting which team will meet with which specialist group. – detailed on page 3.
Page 3 – Specials Rotation: Teacher  – A breakdown of the TEACHER’s schedule on a rotation day. The 40 min block alternates between rotation teachers, special ed, science and Professional Development.  Which week is when, can be found on the year view – page 2.
Page 4Specials Rotation: At a Glance –  An “at a glance” of the entire rotation process. This page also shows the location of rotations – still subject to change, the amount of students projected to be in each rotation group. This shows an “A” week and a “B” week. This is how we will show if they are going to chess/yoga/theatre/garden or music/library/brain/PE.
Page 5Specials Rotation: Master -  The document shared at the PTA meeting- showing how each group will rotate through on a rotation day (the order of rotations).  The rotation groups are not yet formed. They are not by classroom, but rather by GRADE and if parents wish to know their students schedule they should ask which color group they are in.  (Do note that Kinder and 3rd have different times. They share the Monday, but have different lunches and recesses, so they will be rotating at different times.)
